My 3 year old temper tantrum
‘My 3 year old’ temper tantrum was my first post. Wordpress was still new to me then. Even when I had sent a post, I was still juggling with the blog’s presentation and layout and trying to understand how things works with wordpress. I am now still juggling, but wouldn’t want to miss posting some of the very interesting things happening. I’ve published my 5th post recently but I was not quite satisfied with the content of my first post on my 3 year old temper tantrum. So, here it is. I’m going to write again on this. The original posting is in italic.
Today, I have to deal with another of my 3 year old temper tantrum. (She is the sixth/youngest of, one eldest sister and four brothers) She’s been having this fit lately. She’s over-sensitive, over-possessive and over and over….She’d throw herself to the floor and start crying and whining for almost an hour, refusing us everytime we come near to coax her and finally when she let me pick her up, she would slowly drop off to sleep. This situation can sometimes drive me crazy since I am not the ‘so sabar’ (calm, patient) type.
Initially, I tried coaxing her and try to give in to her demands. It did not work. I stayed near her until I thought she would finally give in. Feeling like I would be a bad mother if I ignore her. But then, I could not wait on her all the time. I have others to attend to.
Offering her goodies, like sweets and chocolates. She took it and the tantrum level drop to medium. It takes some time before she really settles down. But it’s certainly not the right way. I can use it sometimes, not every time. I would be blame for the hole in her teeth if she throws 6 to 7 tantrums a day. Not good for her tummy too.
Then later, I decided that I should ignore her . Sometimes, I manage to keep cool and calm but in tense situation like when I need to get the elder ones to school or prepare dinner, I would just feel like throwing up myself.
It has been more than 2 months now since she had her tantrums. Now her tantrums are shorter and quieter. I don’t know if it was the ‘ignore’ method or what. But it seems like she’s learned that her tantrums doesn’t bring any good to herself. I hope she would forget she ever had tantrums some time later. Otherwise, Nuha is a very sweet girl, so clever and lovable…
